Power Pole Cross Arm

Power pole cross arms hot-dip galvanized angle-steel arms that carry the conductors out from a power pole. SA series in 508mm and 965mm lengths and 50×50 to 65×65 sections, drilled to your standard, ready to bolt up and carry the insulators.

Description

The Standard Angle-Steel Arm of Distribution Construction

On a power pole, the conductors have to be carried out from the pole and spaced apart at the right distances, and the part that does it, more than any other, is the power pole cross arm. A straight length of angle steel, bolted across the pole and drilled to carry the insulators, it’s the workhorse arm of distribution construction: strong, straight, galvanized, and made to a standard so it bolts up the same way every time.

Angle steel is the right section for it; the L-profile gives strength and stiffness where the arm is loaded (conductor weight down, wind and tension sideways) at an economical weight, and it takes drilling cleanly for the insulator positions. Our power pole cross arms come in standard lengths and sections, drilled to your pattern, ready to mount. This page covers them: the sizes we make, how to pick one, and how the arm completes into a braced, insulated assembly.

Power Pole Cross Arm Sizes

(SA series, hot-dip galvanized angle steel, lengths and sections in mm. From the Dapeng catalog; sizes customizable.)

Type Length (mm) Angle section (mm)
SA11 508 65 × 65 × 6
SA12 965 65 × 65 × 6
SA13 508 50 × 50 × 4
SA14 965 50 × 50 × 4

Reading the range: two lengths (508mm short, 965mm long) in two sections (heavier 65×65×6, lighter 50×50×4). The length sets the conductor spacing the arm can hold; the section sets the load it carries. A short light arm (SA13) suits a compact, lightly-loaded position; a long heavy arm (SA12) carries more, further. Lengths, sections, and hole patterns outside this range are made to your drawing.

Picking the Arm: Length × Section

Two choices, both driven by your structure:

  • Length set by the conductor spacing your design and voltage require. Wider spacing (or more positions) needs the longer 965mm arm; a compact arrangement uses the 508mm.
  • Section set by the load: the conductors’ weight, wind, ice, and any unbalanced tension. Heavier or longer-arm duty uses the 65×65×6 section; lighter duty uses 50×50×4.

So a short, light position is an SA13 (508, 50×50×4); a long, heavy one is an SA12 (965, 65×65×6); the other two cover the between cases. Send the conductor spacing, the conductors, and the loads, and we confirm the length and section or build to your standard drawing.

Why Buyers Choose DAPENG Power Pole Cross Arms

  • Standard sizes, sized to your line: SA lengths and sections (or to your drawing), matched to your spacing and load the right arm, not over- or under-built.
  • Drilled to your standard: Insulator and mounting holes to your pattern, so the arm arrives ready to bolt up no field drilling, and every arm identical across the network.
  • Hot-dip galvanized to ISO 1461: The same class as the bolts, braces, and fittings it carries, so the assembly ages together.
  • Braced square: Supplied with the flat crossarm braces that triangulate the arm to the pole a complete, rigid arm.
  • The structure from one source: Arms with the insulators, pins, braces, mounting hardware, and bolts matched and kitted per structure.

Use-Case Deep Dive

Power pole cross arm or electrical cross arm what’s the difference?

They’re both straight angle-steel arms; the practical difference in our range is the series and how the conductor is carried. The power pole cross arm (SA series, this page) is the standard drilled distribution arm conductors on pins/insulators along the arm. The electrical cross arm (EC series) adds a central bail for suspending a conductor below the arm on a string, as well as on top. If you’re doing standard pin-mounted distribution, the power pole arm is the workhorse; if you need string suspension from the arm, look at the electrical arm. Tell us your conductor arrangement and we’ll point you to the right one.

Should the arm come drilled, or plain?

Drilled, to your standard that’s the point of ordering to spec. The insulator holes and mounting holes are punched to your pattern before galvanizing, so the arm arrives ready to bolt up and every arm across the network is identical. Field-drilling galvanized steel is slow and breaks the coating at the hole; factory-drilled-then-galvanized is cleaner and faster. Send your hole pattern (or standard drawing) and the arms come ready.

Steel or wood crossarm?

That’s the material choice covered on the steel cross arms hub, which weighs steel vs wood (strength, life, fire, cost, consistency). In short: steel gives long, consistent, fire-resistant service and takes a repeatable drilled pattern, which is why many networks standardize on it. If you’re deciding steel vs wood, start at the hub; if you’ve chosen steel angle arms, this is the product.

Straight Answers to Common Buyer Concerns

“Which size do we need?” By spacing and load: the length (508 or 965mm) follows your conductor spacing, the section (50×50×4 or 65×65×6) follows the load. A compact light position is SA13; a long heavy one is SA12; SA11 and SA14 cover the rest or we build to your drawing for other spacings. Send the conductors, spacing, and loads and we’ll confirm the size.

“Can you drill them to our crossarm standard?” Yes send your hole pattern or standard drawing and the arms are punched to it before galvanizing, arriving ready to bolt up and identical across the network. Matching a utility’s crossarm standard is routine export work, confirmed before production.

“Can you supply the arm complete with braces, insulators, and bolts?” Yes the power pole cross arm, its flat braces, the insulators and pins, the mounting hardware, and the bolts come matched and kitted per structure one order, everything fits.

After You Order

Length, section, and drilling confirmation before production, galvanizing certificates with shipment, arms drilled to fit and kitted with their braces, insulators, and mounting hardware per structure, and an engineering contact who answers precisely because the crossarm sets the conductor geometry, and getting the size and drilling right is what keeps the line where the design put it.
