Guy Clamp

Guy clamps bolted clamps that terminate a guy strand by compression, giving a re-openable, re-tension able, reusable connection where you want to adjust or inspect the guy. Galvanized, sized to your strand, the adjustable alternative to a preformed guy grip.

Description

The Adjustable, Re-Openable Guy Termination

When a guy strand is terminated at an anchor or pole, sometimes you want a connection you can re-open to re-tension the guy, inspect it, or reuse the fitting. A guy clamp gives you that: a bolted clamp that grips the strand by compression, holding it firmly while staying adjustable and re-openable. Loosen the bolts and you can re-tension or release the guy; tighten them, and it holds. Where a permanent, one-shot termination isn’t what you want, the guy clamp is the answer.

It’s the bolted counterpart to the preformed guy grip same job (terminate the guy strand), different trade-off (adjustable and reusable, versus full-strength and tool-free). This page covers guy clamps: the bolted advantage, how to install them right, and where they fit in the stay.

The Bolted Advantage: Adjustable, Re-Openable, Reusable

A guy clamp’s value is what the bolts let you do:

  • Adjustable / re-tension able: Loosen, re-tension the guy, re-tighten useful when a guy needs its tension set or reset on site, or adjusted after the pole settles.
  • Re-openable / inspectable: The connection can be opened to inspect the strand or the fitting, and closed again.
  • Reusable: Unlike a single-use preformed grip, a bolted clamp can be removed and reused.

The trade-off, honestly stated: a bolted clamp grips by compression at the clamp, a more concentrated (point) load than a preformed grip’s distributed grip, and it takes more install effort (bolts to torque correctly). So the guy clamp is chosen where adjustability, re-openability, or reuse are worth that trade and the guy grip where a permanent, full-strength, tool-free termination is preferred.

Guy Clamp or Guy Grip? The Honest Choice

The termination choice is bolted clamp versus preformed grip:

Guy clamp (bolted, this page) Guy grip (preformed)
Grip Bolted compression (point) Distributed over length
Adjustable Yes – re-tension/re-open No – permanent
Reusable Yes No – single-use
Install Bolts to torque Tool-free, wrap on
Best for Where you’ll adjust/inspect/reuse Permanent, full-strength, fast

Choose the guy clamp where you want to adjust, re-tension, inspect, or reuse the termination; the guy grip where a permanent, tool-free, full-strength dead-end is best. Many jobs use both grips for permanent dead-ends, clamps where adjustment is wanted. Tell us the application and we’ll advise.

Installed Right: The Bolt Torque Is the Holding

A bolted guy clamp holds only as well as it’s tightened:

  • The bolts must be torqued correctly enough to grip the strand firmly and develop the clamp’s holding value, to your standard’s torque spec.
  • Under-torqued, the clamp can slip under load; over-torqued, the bolts or strand can be damaged.
  • The number of bolts and the clamp design set how the compression is applied along the strand.

So a guy clamp’s holding is an install-dependent thing in a way a preformed grip’s isn’t get the torque right and it holds to its rated value. We supply the clamp with the correct bolt specification and the torque guidance, so it’s installed to hold.

Why Buyers Choose DAPENG Guy Clamps

  • Adjustable and reusable: Bolted grip you can re-tension, re-open, and reuse for guys that need setting or inspecting.
  • Sized to your strand: The clamp matched to your guy strand diameter so it grips correctly.
  • Correct bolts and torque: Supplied with the bolt specification and torque guidance that develop the holding value.
  • Hot-dip galvanized: Galvanized for the outdoor, at-anchor environment, matched to the guy hardware.
  • Part of the stay: Guy clamps with the guy wire, grips, anchor hardware, and hooks matched and kitted.

Use-Case Deep Dive

When should I use a guy clamp instead of a guy grip?

When you want the termination to be adjustable, re-openable, or reusable for example where the guy tension may need setting or resetting on site, where you want to inspect the connection, or where reusing the fitting matters. Where a permanent, tool-free, full-strength dead-end is best, the preformed guy grip is the choice. The clamp trades a distributed grip and tool-free install for adjustability and reuse; pick by which matters for your job. We make both.

How do I make sure it holds?

By torquing the bolts correctly a bolted guy clamp develops its holding value only when the bolts are tightened to spec, gripping the strand firmly. Under-torqued, it can slip; over-torqued, it can be damaged. We supply the clamp with the bolt specification and torque guidance, so tightened to spec it holds to its rated value. The strand diameter must also match the clamp. Get the match and the torque right and it holds.

Where in the stay does it go?

At a guy termination the anchor end (connecting via the central hole to the anchor rod / anchor) or the pole end wherever you want an adjustable, re-openable connection rather than a permanent grip. It grips the guy strand and connects to the stay hardware.

Straight Answers to Common Buyer Concerns

“Guy clamp or guy grip which do we need?” A guy clamp where you want an adjustable, re-openable, reusable termination to re-tension, inspect, or reuse; a guy grip where a permanent, tool-free, full-strength dead-end is best. The clamp is bolted (adjustable, point grip); the grip is preformed (distributed, single-use). Many jobs use both. Tell us the application and we’ll advise honestly, by what the connection needs to do.

“Will it hold the guy?” Yes, when sized to your strand and torqued to spec a bolted guy clamp develops its holding value from correctly tightened bolts gripping the strand. We supply the right clamp for your strand with the torque guidance, so installed correctly it holds to its rated value. Send the strand and guy tension and we’ll confirm.

“Can you supply it with the rest of the stay?” Yes guy clamps with the guy wire, grips where preformed terminations are also used, the anchor rod and anchor, and the guy hook, matched to the strand and kitted as a complete stay.
