Description
Holding the Luminaire Over the Road
A streetlight has to sit over the road, at a height and reach that puts its light where it’s needed, not against the pole, but out over the carriageway or footpath. The street light arm does that: an outreach bracket that mounts to the pole and cantilevers out (and usually up) to hold the luminaire at the end, positioning the light exactly where the lighting design calls for it.
It’s a mounting bracket with two jobs to get right: reach the light out to the correct position over the road, and fit the luminaire on its mounting end. Get both right and the light lands where it should on a bracket that holds it securely for years. This page covers street light arms: the reach-and-rise geometry, the luminaire mounting that has to match, and the configurations and finishes available.
The Two Things That Have to Be Right
A street light arm succeeds or fails on two specifications:
1. Reach and rise (where the light lands): The arm’s reach (how far it extends from the pole) and its rise/angle (how far up it lifts the luminaire) position the light over the road. The lighting design sets these the reach to get the light over the carriageway, the rise for the mounting height and throw. Too short and the light falls short of the road; wrong height and the spacing/uniformity suffers.
2. The luminaire mounting (the fit): The arm ends in a tenon (spigot/slip fitter) a tube of a specific diameter that the luminaire slips onto and clamps to. This must match the luminaire’s mounting entry (streetlight luminaires take a standard slip fitter size). A tenon that doesn’t match the luminaire is the classic mistake the arm and the light don’t fit.
Give us the lighting geometry (reach, mounting height) and the luminaire (its mounting size) and we supply an arm that lands the light right and fits the fixture.
Configurations and Finish
Street light arms come in configurations and finishes to suit the installation:
- Single arm one luminaire on one arm (the common case).
- Double / twin arm two arms (often opposite or at an angle) for two luminaires on one pole, lighting both sides or a wider road.
- Multi-arm three or more, for junctions, large areas, or decorative schemes.
- Finish hot-dip galvanized for maximum corrosion protection, and/or painted (the image shows white) for appearance, which matters on street furniture where the pole and arm are visible. Galvanized-then-painted gives both.
Tell us the layout (single/double/multi) and the finish (galvanized, painted, or both) and we’ll supply to match.
Why Buyers Choose DAPENG Street Light Arms
- Reach and rise to your lighting design: Arm length and angle to position the light where the design needs it over the road.
- Tenon matched to your luminaire: The mounting tenon sized to your luminaire’s slip fitter, so the light fits first time.
- Single, double, or multi-arm: The configuration for your lighting layout.
- Galvanized and/or painted: Corrosion protection and the appearance street furniture needs.
- Pole-mounted to fit: Mounting matched to your pole (banded, bolted, or bracketed) with the mounting hardware.
Use-Case Deep Dive
How do I choose the reach and rise?
From the lighting design: the reach gets the luminaire out over the carriageway (or footpath) to the position that gives the coverage and uniformity the scheme needs; the rise/angle sets the effective mounting height and the aim. A wide road or a light meant to sit over the center needs a longer reach; the mounting height and the luminaire’s optics set the rise. If you have the lighting layout (road width, mounting height, luminaire spacing), we’ll match the arm geometry to it; if not, tell us the road and we’ll advise.
How do I make sure the luminaire fits the arm?
Match the tenon to the luminaire. Streetlight luminaires mount on a slip fitter of a standard diameter, and the arm’s tenon has to be that size for the light to slip on and clamp. This is the fit spec that most often goes wrong an arm with the wrong tenon won’t take the luminaire. Send us the luminaire (or its mounting/slip fitter size) and we supply the arm with the matching tenon, so it fits first time.
Galvanized or painted?
Both are available, and the choice is corrosion protection versus appearance often both. Hot-dip galvanized gives the best corrosion protection for a long outdoor life. Painted (like the white in the image) suits street furniture where the arm and pole are seen and a color is wanted. Galvanized then painted gives maximum protection with the finish appearance common on quality street lighting. Tell us the environment and the look and we’ll advise.
Specifications and What They Mean for You
| Specification | What we supply | What it means for the buyer |
|---|---|---|

| Rise / angle | To your mounting height | Sets the height and aim |
| Tenon | Matched to your luminaire | The light fits first time |
| Configuration | Single/double/multi | Suits your lighting layout |
| Finish | Galvanized and/or painted | Corrosion protection + appearance |
| Pole mounting | To your pole | Mounts securely to the pole |
Straight Answers to Common Buyer Concerns
“How do I make sure the luminaire fits?” Match the arm’s tenon (slip fitter) size to your luminaire’s mounting. Streetlight luminaires take a standard slip fitter diameter, and the arm’s tenon has to be that size it’s the one fit spec that most often goes wrong. Send us the luminaire or its mounting size and we supply the arm with the matching tenon, so the light slips on and clamps first time.
“What reach do we need?” The reach that puts the light where your lighting design wants it over the road longer for a wider carriageway or a central position, shorter for a footpath or edge. Send the road width and mounting height (or the lighting layout) and we’ll match the arm’s reach and rise; if you don’t have a design, tell us the road and we’ll advise a suitable geometry.
“Can we get it painted to match our street furniture?” Yes arms are available painted (the image shows white), galvanized, or galvanized then painted for both protection and appearance. Tell us the color and the environment and we’ll supply the finish to match your scheme.
