Guy Hook

Guy Hook the galvanized steel hooks that bolt to the pole and take the guy strand at the top of the stay, carrying the guy’s load into the pole. The pole-end guy attachment, rated to your guy and matched to the strand and anchor hardware.

Description

The Attachment at the Top of the Stay

A guy runs from an anchor in the ground up to the pole and at the pole, it has to attach to something that takes its pull and carries it into the pole structure. That something is the guy hook: a steel hook that bolts to the pole and provides a curved throat the guy strand (or its termination) hooks onto. It’s the pole-end attachment of the stay the top end, mirroring the anchor at the bottom.

Simple as it is, the guy hook is in the load path: the whole guy’s pull passes through it into the pole, so it has to be strong enough to take that load and bolted solidly to the pole. This page covers guy hooks: where they sit in the stay, how the guy attaches, and how they connect the top of the stay to the pole.

Where the Guy Hook Sits: the Top of the Stay

The guy hook is the pole-end of the stay’s load path:

  • At the anchor end (the bottom) the guy connects to the anchor rod and anchor in the ground.
  • Along the guy the guy strand, terminated by a guy grip or clamp at each end.
  • At the pole end (the top) the guy hook, bolted to the pole, takes the guy’s upper termination.

So the guy hook is what the top of the guy attaches to, transferring the guy’s pull into the pole to hold it against the line’s tension. It bolts through the pole (through a double arming bolt or the pole fixing) at the height the guy attaches.

In the Load Path: Strong Enough for the Guy

Because the guy’s full pull runs through the guy hook into the pole, its strength matters:

  • The hook must be rated above the guy’s working tension with your standard’s margin it’s in the load path, so it can’t be the weak point.
  • It must be bolted solidly to the pole the fixing (bolt size, through-bolt) has to carry the load into the pole without pulling out.
  • The throat has to take the guy’s termination (the grip’s eye, a thimble, or the strand) cleanly.

Get the rating and the fixing right and the hook holds the top of the stay for the life of the line.

Why Buyers Choose DAPENG Guy Hooks

  • Rated to your guy: Strength above the guy’s working tension with your margin never the weak point at the top of the stay.
  • Bolts solidly to the pole: The fixing sized to carry the guy’s load into the pole.
  • Takes your guy termination: The throat sized for the guy grip eye, thimble, or strand it holds.
  • Hot-dip galvanized: Galvanized for outdoor life, matched to the guy hardware.
  • Part of the stay: Guy hooks with the guy wire, grips/clamps, anchor rod, and anchor matched and kitted as a complete stay.

Use-Case Deep Dive

Where does the guy hook go on the pole?

At the guy attachment height where the guy is designed to attach to the pole, usually near the conductors it’s balancing the load of. The hook bolts through the pole at that height (often via a double arming bolt), and the guy’s upper termination hooks onto it. The height and the pole fixing are set by the guy design; we supply the hook to suit.

How does the guy attach to the hook?

Through the hook’s throat the guy strand, terminated at the top by a guy grip or clamp, presents an eye or loop (often over a thimble) that hooks onto the guy hook. The hook holds that termination and carries the load into the pole. We supply the hook with the throat sized for your guy termination, so they mate.

Is the guy hook strong enough for our guy?

It is if rated for it the hook is in the load path, so its rating is chosen above the guy’s working tension with your margin, and its fixing sized to carry that load into the pole. It’s designed not to be the weak point at the top of the stay. Send the guy tension and we confirm the hook’s rating and fixing on datasheet figures.

Specifications and What They Mean for You

Specification What we supply What it means for the buyer
Function Bolts to pole, takes the guy Pole-end attachment of the stay
Load rating Above guy tension Never the weak point
Fixing Bolt/through-bolt to pole Carries the load into the pole
Throat For your guy termination Takes the grip eye/thimble/strand
Coating HDG Outdoor life, matched hardware
Pairing With guy + anchor hardware Completes the stay

Straight Answers to Common Buyer Concerns

“Will the guy hook hold our guy?” Yes, when rated for it the hook is in the load path, so its rating is chosen above the guy’s working tension with your standard’s margin, and its fixing is sized to carry that load into the pole. It’s designed not to be the weak point at the top of the stay. Send the guy tension and we confirm the rating and fixing.

“How does our guy termination attach to it?” Through the hook’s throat your guy grip or clamp terminates the strand into an eye/loop (often over a thimble) that hooks onto it. Tell us your guy termination and we supply the hook with a matching throat.

“Can you supply it with the rest of the stay?” Yes guy hooks with the guy wire, grips/clamps, anchor rod, and anchor, matched and kitted as a complete stay from pole-top to ground.
